Meet Boo!

And he promises not to scare you!  He's an all white golden retriever and has joined our family.  We picked him up on Monday and and think he might give Procter a run for its money.  He's a much bigger, wigglier version of a swiffer... he picks up any of the many cobwebs under our chairs... and he'll chew through any obstacle in his way.

I've got a new baby sister!!

How great it is to photograph new parents that are completely laid back and "good with anything"!?  I've known these guys for a few years and photographed their now toddler as a baby.  Here are a few captures..

Oprah today....

featured the sister of one of my clients.  Rogers Hartmann is battling with dystonia a neurological disorder that acts much like Parkinson's Disease.  Both Rogers and Michael J. Fox were featured talking about how debilitating it can be and how they simply get through the day.  Something resontated with me as Michael J. Fox was talking.  He said he really believes Parkinson's made him stop and embrace each day for what it was.  He might not have a decision about whether he has Parkinson's, but he does have a thousand other decisions he can make.   If his children wanted him to come do something, "nothing to him was more important than being with his kids".  He wasn't sure he'd be that way had he not had Parkinson's.  Gosh, I hope for those of us that aren't faced with such a challenge that we take heed of his advice!

Rogers has a blog  that talks about dystonia and how people respond to her looking different.. hunched over.  One of her stories highlights her challenges at the airport.  She literally laid down on the floor waiting in a line becuause it was too painful to stand.  And no one offered to help her!

I think when we see people who look different our response is to avert our eyes for fear of being accused of "staring" or being rude or maybe because of the uncomfortable nature.  But the reality is, just like everyone else, they want love and kindness.  A nice hello, eye contact, assistance if needed.  All the things we all want.  On Oprah, Rogers talks about how she carries a cane around because it serves more as an emotional crutch to help others understand her situation.

Anyway, I thought I'd share.  I think there are some good lessons here.  And most certainly, if you go to Rogers' blog site she has information if you would like to make a donation to contribute towards helping to find a cure for dystonia.  Her positive attitude, strength and determination are pretty amazing!

Oh the sweet smell of a BABY!

To hold a newborn again is a huge rush for me who now has a 10 and 8 year old.  This little lady was so completely cute and I get to see her again on Wednesday when we are officially doing her first family Owenemma Experience...

Holy smokes! I can't tell you how thrilled I am!

As you know, I love for each and every piece I offer to you to be a one of a kind, unique piece.  Personally, I strive to create images that not only capture the spirit of being a kid (your kid), but also to capture it in a way that transforms it into a piece of fine art.  Not everyone wants this...but I do for some images.  For certain images that lend themselves to it.

These images were taken of an image that is painted in wax..adding depth and dimension to the image.  It took my breath away when it was completed.  It's stunning!  So I instantly took it over to my amazing clients' house and photographed her son holding his image, wearing the same crown... I am so excited about this!!!  So if you are looking for something a little bit different, a little bit special, I've got options!!

I just had to share!!

Ok... if you haven't started thinking about your spring Owenemma Experiences...

Do so now!  I'm telling you!!! It's going to get warm soon.  The grass is going to be that unbelievable green.  I've just been editing my personal images from last year and the year before and I now know why I spend most of first quarter going to workshops, seminars, etc.  Because winter stinks here in Cincinnati.  I don't get that intoxicating feeling I get when the birds start chirping, the flowers start blooming... I lose my skip in my step in the winter, if you will.  So I focus on the art of photography, studying other artists, techniques, etc.   Looking for new products for you.  New things I want to do and try... and I can feel Spring coming.

The time of year when I can't put my camera down.  The time of year when you don't see my face because it's always behind the lens.  I'm telling you, I go CRAZY!!!

So I just opened and looked at my recent Chasing Fireflies catalog.  Emma, is now a size 14 or bigger, and clearly doesn't fit into the wonderfully beautiful, fun stuff this catalog offers.  So I can't invest in their clothes anymore...which kills me.  I found myself this AM thinking of all of the things I would do with a child wearing the yellow polka dotted and striped outfit on page 13 (I even thought about purchasing it for a photoshoot... is that insane?) or the cool lime green top with striped leggings on page 8.  And if you are a mother of boys, don't think I'm not thinking of you too... dive into all of the cool pirate stuff on page 38 or the cool skateboarder shorts on page 34.  (And some of these things I couldn't find on their website, or I would have included the link...)

See, the feeling I get with Spring, I also get with fun, playful clothes (I'm a girl, what can I say)...as you know I'm crazy about color, it makes my heart palpitate... and this catalog did that. (And, think about all of the color against the spring colors....)

Sooooo..... CALL ME!  And, if you CALL ME and have your kids in any of this Chasing Fireflies stuff, I'll print an additional 8x10 for you!  We have longer days... the lighting in the evenings will be beautiful....so also think about weekday days too.

Back to warm my hands from the coold walk with our dog, Kate... :)

"I don't think you want me to tell you how it felt..

to see my new baby for the first time."  she said to me.  And I'm thinking it was some painful childbirth story where the anaesthesiologist didn't make it to the delivery room in time.  Instead it was the awe I experienced when we had our first child.  To me it was one of the most religious experiences I have ever had.  And to this client.. it was equally as amazing.  This little guy is their first born.  He's beautiful and happy and has incredibly loving parents.

Their house is happy.  It looks happy.  It feels happy.  It's going to be a wonderful place to grow up.  His eyes match his father's.  His skin as beautiful as his mother's.  And, how great it was to have grandma Nadine there!!!  Willing to help me move furniture or stand in that amazing light I loved for just another second!  Thank you!

I know I've promised to post a few images...so here they are!!!!  Thank you for opening your worlds up to me!  I so look forward to years of photographing your little guy... and you know where I want our next experience to be!!! Hugs to all of you!
